Strategy Fellow - The Wall Street Journal
2015
My fellow project centered around creating context and background for the news using a tool I created named Accordion.
I hypothesized that there was a better way for news companies to give the value of background to a user right in an article. And thus, Accordion was born. The concept was an in-line tool that expands and collapses with extra info for readers to digest while reading a story. The idea was that the background was there when they needed it, without having to leave the page or search on their own.
Editorial Fellow - The Texas Standard, KUT
2015
I wrote blog posts, edited audio, interviewed guests, pitched ideas, researched leads and even produced a few of my own stories. Texas stories are near and dear to my heart. This is my favorite one.
Engaging Millennials Project Manager - The Guardian US + NYU
2015
During the Spring of 2015, I worked on a project with The Guardian US on how to better engage the millennial generation.
I first aided their technology vertical on creating a social strategy for Twitter and Facebook that was millennial friendly. I conducted research on the best language for engagement, photos and video and competitor strategy. I also worked with their video editor on how to utilize Vine to connect with a younger audience and create a community on mobile.
Agile in the Newsroom Research Lead - Storyful + NYU
2014
Studio 20 teamed up with Storyful to answer this question: what does it take to create a more agile newsroom?
We produced a 25 page report full of expert and employee interviews. We found out a lot of stuff and recommended a few things, like how important it is for everyone to be on the same sharing tool (like Slack) and to find ways to release from the "hamster wheel."
Culture Writer Intern - Mashable
2014-2015
This was the heyday of listicles and writing about “viral content” so yes I wrote about Game of Thrones, DIY projects and Vines. (Remember Vine?) Clips here: https://mashable.com/author/jacqui-devaney/

I contributed to Austin Women's Magazine and ATX Man Magazine and was also a regular contributor to each publication's website. This is where I got started in journalism. Without my editors there, Deb and Molly, I wouldn't be where I am today.
